But What Can I Do?

I am so disappointed in people.  I am disappointed in the amount of people I know that are still shopping on Amazon and in particular Christmas gifts from Amazon even though they see what is happening all around us on a daily basis.

I have a friend who justifies Amazon because they provide a space for small businesses to get their products out to more potential customers.  This is true to be a good thing. However when an entity is causing a fuck ton of chaos to employees, customers, the health of the planet, and to the country; the chaos then overrides the few good things they do.

I want to put it out there that I am not in either a red or a blue political party.  This is beyond politics.  This is about the planet and humanity.  Most of what we are actually talking about these days comes down to the planet and humanity.

We have a few people at the top dictating what we do and how we do it in EVERY aspect of our lives.  The amount of propaganda being put out there that I see people STILL buying into is a bit outrageous to me.

For decades now, we have known about all of the environmental catastrophes that have been happening to the planet because of big business and the vast majority of people choose to say that it is not their problem, blows my mind.

They use excuses like I have to get to work, I have to pay my bills, I have to support my family, and the list goes on.  I get that, I am not saying they are wrong in those statements.  I am saying that WE, EVERY LAST ONE OF US needs to stop and think about where we as a society of human beings are headed if WE don’t FULLY stand and say I am not participating in this noise.

And then I hear; but how can I, one insignificant person do anything?  I am too small, I can’t do anything.

YOU can do a lot!

The first thing you can do is change your mindset.  Instead of presenting yourself like the victim, you can say “I AM GOING TO DO MY PART.”

You can really take a look at your life and see all the little ways you are participating in all the bullshit.  How and where do you spend your money?  Do you seek out and PURPOSEFULLY buy as often as you can from businesses that do not support the chaos that is happening?

Stop purchasing most things!  You probably don’t need it.  I’m not saying you can’t purchase things, but stop and ask yourself “Do I really need this or does this actually bring me joy.”

This brings me to something super related to all of this.  The amount of things and purchasing we do is extremely related to the amount of work we mentally don’t work on about ourselves. We cover up our issues by going on vacation, buying a new car, or spending money on the “most prestigious” product.

I’m not saying you can’t have nice things or have a car or go on vacation.  I am saying that WE need to look at everything we do with self scrutiny.  How am I ACTUALLY being a helper and not being a participant?

We definitely aren’t going to be perfect, but WE can do better.  It’s going to take each and every one of us to step up and make decisions in every faucet of our lives to do the right thing, to be a better human for the planet and for the sake of humanity.

CHOOSE to support small businesses.  CHOOSE your vacation wisely by verifying that your dollars will help the local economy and the environment.  CHOOSE to buy the thing that will last longer and is more sustainable.  CHOOSE to do the right thing for the sake of all the people and not just a few.

CHOOSE to be the change you want to see.

Lots of Love,

Katie
