We Are All Connected and We All Need to Change
Many of us see a ton of issues in today’s world. It’s not the same as when we grew up. Not for me, a Gen Xer, not for millennials, and not even for my son’s generation, a Gen Zer. .
We have been blinded by so many faucets of our society to think that the way things are now are the way things should always be and have always been.
It’s not true, we have not ALWAYS lived like we do today. Most of human evolution was quite the opposite. Most of human evolution we lived without electricity and easy ways to get around like cars and other automotive forms of travel. At best we had horses and carriages.
Human evolution did not always live in individual houses with a set of parents and children and that’s it. We lived in groups of families or tribes. We lived with aunts, uncles, grandparents, children, and maybe even friends. We did what we had to do to provide shelter and food for all the people around us. We supported each other.
I am definitely not saying that things were better or worse before. I am simply saying that the way in which we live today is not good for humans or the environment.
My aim is to be on the side of learning to live a better life for Earth, her creatures, and for humanity. I have been criticized for my views of the planet because they said that I should consider people and put people first. My friend pointed out that that was an incorrect way of thinking about it. He said “You ARE putting people first, by thinking about the planet first, you absolutely are putting people first. If you don’t take care of Earth and all her creatures, then there will be nowhere for the people to live and therefore you are putting people first.”
I loved this way of thinking! That’s exactly how I feel about the position we are now in.
How can we live in a way that supports all the planet AND all the people. WE are after all, a piece of the planet. We are all connected to everything and everyone that lives here. We are connected to the land and the sea.
If we continue to use fossil fuels, we continue to make climate change even worse to a point where we as human beings will no longer be able to live in certain areas of the globe. This is already happening in many places. If we continue to use resources like precious metals, forests, and water we will create an environment that is unsustainable for life. This too is already happening in many places around the world.
What do we do? How are we to keep living? How do we change? How do we live better?
We take one step at a time. We change something small. Maybe that is changing the soap we use everyday. Maybe we find plastic alternatives. When we start with small steps we start looking for larger steps. We find new ways of traveling to work. We may find new or different work. We may find work that is in a community of people looking to change as well. We find ways to collaborate.
The possibilities become endless when we open our eyes to both, the real problems and the possible solutions.
Let’s continue to stay connected. Let’s rebuild community where everyone thrives. Let’s reshape what the future looks like.
I hope you continue to read this new blog to find ways you can do your part in the solution. I know I want to evolve into the solution and not turn a blind eye anymore.
I would love to talk here about all kinds of things. The environment, the problems facing humanity as a society, or just about anything else that comes to mind. Everything is connected to everything.
Lots of Love!
Katie
